After launching from the waterfront, begin paddling through the calm waters of Liberty Bay in stable sit-on-top kayaks. Along the route, your guide will share stories about Poulsbo’s maritime heritage, Scandinavian roots, and the Indigenous communities who stewarded these waters for generations.
Natural History & Wildlife Viewing
As you move deeper into the bay, learn about the marine ecosystem of Puget Sound and Liberty Bay’s importance as a harbor seal habitat and pupping ground. Keep watch for harbor seals surfacing nearby, as well as bald eagles, great blue herons, jellyfish, and other wildlife.

Are bike rentals included in the price?
Yes. Your rental bike, helmet, guided experience, bottled water, light snacks, and photos from the tour are included in the tour price.
Do I need prior e-bike experience?
No. E-bikes are easy to learn, and we begin with a brief orientation before the ride. The route follows paved paths and is suitable for most riders who are comfortable on a bicycle.
What is the minimum age for e-bike riders?
Guests must be at least 16 years old to ride an e-bike in accordance with local guidelines and rental policies. Younger participants are welcome on standard pedal bikes.
Can young children participate?
Yes. Families are welcome. Younger children may ride standard bikes if available, and child carriers can be attached to pedal bikes for infants and children who are not ready to ride on their own.
How strenuous is the tour?
This is a relaxed ride with frequent stops for narration, photos, and sightseeing. E-bikes provide pedal assistance, making the route enjoyable for a wide range of fitness levels.
How long is the guided portion of the experience?
The guided portion typically lasts about 75–90 minutes. Afterward, guests may continue exploring Point Defiance or ride back along the waterfront at their own pace within their rental period.
What will we see on the tour?
Highlights include Point Ruston, Ruston Way, Chinese Reconciliation Park, Dune Peninsula, Owen Beach, views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, and stories about Tacoma's industrial, environmental, and cultural history.
Are helmets provided?
Yes. Helmets are included and required for all riders.
What happens if it rains?
Tours operate rain or shine. Light rain is common in the Pacific Northwest, so we recommend bringing a light jacket. In the event of severe weather, we will contact guests regarding options.
Is this a private tour?
Yes. Your booking is private, meaning only your group will participate. This allows the experience to be tailored to your interests, pace, and comfort level.
Where does the tour end?
The guided portion concludes near Owen Beach in Point Defiance Park. Guests may continue exploring the park or return along the waterfront. All bicycles must ultimately be returned to Wheel Fun Rentals at Point Ruston.
